Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act is a parliamentary permission slip to spend money—specifically, it authorizes the government to pay £51 million in war pensions to veterans.

How it works:

The source: The money comes from the Consolidated Revenue Fund (the government’s central bank account, funded by taxes).
The destination: The cash is paid into the War Pensions Fund (a special holding account set up under the Audit Act).
The purpose: To fund pension payments for veterans and their dependents.

Who it affects: Veterans receiving war pensions and their families, as it guarantees the legal funding for their benefits. It also affects taxpayers generally, as it authorizes the expenditure of public money.

Why it matters: The government cannot legally spend a cent without Parliament’s specific approval. This Act provides that authority for a major social welfare payment, ensuring veterans receive their entitlements.
