Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorises the Australian Government to withdraw £48 million (in 1955 currency) from the national budget — known legally as the Consolidated Revenue Fund — to pay for war pensions.

War pensions are regular financial payments made to:

Veterans who suffered injuries or illness due to military service
Widows and dependants of service personnel who died as a result of their service

The money is paid into a special government account called the War Pensions Fund, which was established under the Audit Act. This is a routine budgetary law (called an "appropriation act") that simply gives the government the legal authority to spend this money on pension payments.
