Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorises the Australian Government to spend £18 million (eighteen million pounds) from the national budget to pay war pensions to veterans and their families.

What it does:

Takes money from: The Consolidated Revenue Fund (the government’s main bank account, funded by taxes).
Puts money into: The War Pensions Fund (a special government trust account established under the Audit Act).
Purpose: To fund pension payments to veterans who served in wars and their dependants.

Why it matters: This ensures there is sufficient money legally set aside to pay disability and service pensions to returned servicemen (primarily from World War I and World War II) and support their families. Without this specific appropriation (legal permission to spend), the government could not make these payments.
