Plain English Summary

What this law does

This Act appropriates £13 million from the Consolidated Revenue Fund (Australia’s central government bank account) specifically to fund war pensions.

Who it affects

Veterans who suffered injuries, disabilities, or illness due to war service
Families and dependants of service members who died or were incapacitated
The government department administering these pension payments

How it works The money is transferred into the War Pensions Fund, a special trust account established under the Audit Act. This accounting structure "ring-fences" the money, ensuring it can only be used for pension payments rather than general government expenses.

Why it matters This legislation guarantees a specific pool of money exists to meet the government’s obligations to compensate veterans and war widows. By creating a dedicated appropriation, it ensures these payments are legally protected and not dependent on general budget availability.
