Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This law authorises the government to spend £10 million (roughly $800 million in today's value) on war pensions for veterans.

What it does:

Transfers money from Australia's main government bank account (the Consolidated Revenue Fund)
Into a special dedicated trust account called the War Pensions Fund (set up under the Audit Act)
Locks the money in for one purpose only: paying pensions to war veterans and their families

Who it affects:

Veterans receiving disability or service pensions (primarily from World War I and World War II)
Dependents of deceased veterans entitled to pensions

Why it matters: The Australian Constitution requires Parliament to pass a specific law before the government can spend any money. This is that law for war pensions in 1943. Without it, the Repatriation Department couldn't legally pay pensions to veterans, even though the money existed in government coffers.
