Plain English Summary

What this law does

This Act authorises the Australian Government to withdraw £10 million from the national treasury (the Consolidated Revenue Fund) to pay for war pensions.

Who it affects

This primarily affects:

World War I veterans receiving disability pensions
Dependents of deceased soldiers (widows, children, etc.) receiving support payments

How it works

The money is placed into a special holding account called the War Pensions Fund (set up under the Audit Act). This ensures the funds are ring-fenced specifically for pension payments rather than general government spending.

Why it matters

Following World War I, Australia faced significant costs in caring for wounded veterans and supporting families who lost breadwinners. This appropriation ensures Parliament has approved the specific amount needed to meet these obligations.
