26 Appointment of Acting Assistant Commissioner (1) The Chief Commissioner may appoint a police officer to act as an Assistant Commissioner— (a) during a vacancy in the office of an Assistant Commissioner; or (b) during a period, or all periods, when an Assistant Commissioner is absent from duty or, for any other reason, is unable to perform the duties of office. (2) An Acting Assistant Commissioner has all the powers and must perform all the duties of the Assistant Commissioner in whose place he or she is acting. (3) An appointment under this section may be made for a period not exceeding 6 months. S. 26(3A) inserted by No. 54/2016 s. 4. (3A) A person appointed to act as an Assistant Commissioner is eligible to be reappointed. S. 26(3B) inserted by No. 54/2016 s. 4. (3B) A person must not be appointed to act as an Assistant Commissioner for more than 2 consecutive terms. (4) The Chief Commissioner may revoke the appointment of an Acting Assistant Commissioner at any time.
