Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This rule tells the government to ignore certain injury compensation payments when calculating eligibility for the Pension Bonus Bereavement Payment—a lump sum paid to families when a veteran dies.

Specifically, if a veteran or their deceased partner was receiving periodic compensation payments (regular ongoing payments for an injury), that money is disregarded (not counted) in the income test.

Why this matters: Without this rule, families might receive less bereavement support simply because the veteran was receiving compensation for service-related injuries. This ensures injury compensation doesn't reduce the family's entitlement to bereavement payments.
