Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This instrument declares ADF service in southern Vietnam from 12 January 1973 to 29 April 1975 to be "warlike service" under the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986. It affects veterans who served in the final phase of the Vietnam presence— embassy protection, military assistance teams and similar roles after official combat ended—by qualifying them for warlike-service benefits (disability pensions, treatment and compensation). The determination replaces a 1997 ruling and applies retrospectively, allowing affected veterans to claim entitlements for that service period.
