This determination declares that Australian Defence Force members who served on Operation PALATE II in Afghanistan were performing warlike service.

What this means:

Service in Afghanistan (including the land, internal waters, and airspace) under this operation is officially classified as 'warlike service' under the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986
This classification matters for compensation — 'warlike service' typically qualifies veterans for higher disability pension rates and different benefits compared to peacetime service
The determination covers service from 27 June 2005 onwards, even though it was signed in December 2005

Who is affected: ADF members deployed to Afghanistan on Operation PALATE II on or after 27 June 2005, and their families (for survivor benefits).
