Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This determination classifies Operation SPIRE in East Timor (including territorial waters) as non‑warlike service from 20 May 2004. ADF members who served are recognised as having "operational service" and therefore eligible for veterans' entitlements under the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986.

It replaces the August 2004 determination and matters because the non‑warlike classification determines the level and type of disability pensions and compensation available.
