Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Determination revokes a 1992 determination and declares that service by Australian Defence Force members in the waters of the Gulf of Iran and Gulf of Oman (and adjacent land up to 50 km inland) between 17 November 1986 and 28 February 1989 is "hazardous service" under paragraph 120(7) of the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986. It takes effect retrospectively from 17 November 1986.

Mechanically, that classification alters veterans’ eligibility for benefits tied to "hazardous service" and shifts administrative and fiscal responsibility to the Department for affected claims.
