Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

These rules govern the use of the Australian National University's official seal (the University's formal stamp used to authenticate important documents like degrees and contracts).

What these rules cover:

Who keeps the seal: The Vice-Chancellor (the University's chief executive officer) or someone they nominate
Who must witness its use: When the seal is stamped on a document, the process must be witnessed (attested) by:
- The Vice-Chancellor and
- Either the Chancellor (for major documents like degrees) or a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (for routine documents)
Electronic signatures: If a document bears a printed copy of the Chancellor's or Vice-Chancellor's signature, they don't need to sign it again by hand to validate the seal

In short, these rules ensure the University's seal—its ultimate mark of official approval—is used securely and with proper oversight.
