The application must be made on or before the day that is 3 months after the recorded expiry day for the registration. However, if the vehicle is a prescribed heavy vehicle for which a deferral for a period has been given by the chief executive under section 35 , 183 or 190 , the application must be made on or before the last day of the period. Also, the chief executive may accept a renewal application for a vehicle’s registration made other than when required under subsection (2) or (3) , if the chief executive considers it reasonable in the circumstances to do so.
