sec.47 Purpose of part

The purpose of this part is to provide for matters for part 8 of the Act . See section 54 of the Act in relation to the words and expressions used in Annex V. See also Annex V for the meaning of particular words and expressions used in this part such as cargo residues, en route and nearest land. A map showing nearest land as mentioned in this part is available on the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s website. Division 2 sets out matters relating to shipboard waste management plans. Division 3 sets out disposals that are, for section 57 (1) of the Act , exempt from the operation of the discharge offence in section 55 (1) of the Act .
