Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a formal proclamation (an official announcement) that switches on most of the Trans‑Tasman Proceedings Act 2010.

What it does:

Sets 11 October 2013 as the date when sections 3 to 110 of the Act become law and start operating.

Why it matters:

The Trans‑Tasman Proceedings Act creates special rules to make it easier to handle court cases that involve both Australia and New Zealand (for example, serving court documents across the Tasman, enforcing judgments, or transferring civil proceedings between the two countries).
Before this proclamation, those rules existed on paper but weren't active. This proclamation flips the switch so lawyers, courts, and litigants (people involved in lawsuits) can actually use them.

Who it affects:

Anyone involved in civil litigation (non-criminal court cases) that crosses the Australia-New Zealand border.
Lawyers and judges handling trans-Tasman legal disputes.
