Plain English Summary

5/10 complexity

This Act adopts the Commonwealth Trans‑Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997 as Northern Territory law from 1 January 1999, so regulatory standards recognised between Australia and New Zealand for goods and occupations apply in the Territory. The Administrator may approve Territory‑specific amendments, make regulations for temporary exemptions (linked to s46 of the Commonwealth Act) and may fix an expiry date with at least 12 months’ notice. The measures affect businesses that trade or provide services across jurisdictions and the Territory officials who administer recognition, approvals and exemptions.
