Commonwealth legislation
This Act has been repealed and is no longer in force. It is retained for historical reference.
This notice makes mandatory safety rules for household children’s cots sold in Australia, requiring manufacturers and suppliers to meet Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 2172:1995 except for specified clauses. It excludes folding cots, carry cots, cradles, and certain antique or collectable cots.
Antique/collectable cots can be sold without meeting the full standard only if the seller provides a written certificate warning the cot is unsafe for children and fits a permanent metal warning plaque on the upper half with the specified text and letter-size requirements.
