Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This regulation is a housekeeping measure that cancels (repeals) five outdated sets of tobacco charge regulations, cleaning up the statute book by removing rules that are no longer in force.

Specifically, it scraps:

The 1985 Tobacco Charge (No. 1) Regulations (Statutory Rules 1985 No. 2)
Four separate instruments that set specific charge rates from 1989, 1990, 1995 and 1997

Who it affects: This mainly impacts government administrators and anyone handling legacy matters under the Tobacco Charge Act (No. 1) 1955. For businesses and the general public, it simply removes obsolete red tape.

Why it matters: Old regulations can create confusion about what rules still apply. By formally removing these defunct instruments, the government ensures people only need to look at current, valid laws when dealing with tobacco charges.
