10Duration of authorisation

10 Duration of authorisation (1) Subject to this Act, an authorisation has effect for the period, specified in the authorisation, beginning at the time the authorisation is given and ending at the time that is specified in the authorisation as the time at which the authorisation is to cease to have effect. (2) Subject to subsections (3) and (5), a period specified under subsection (1) in an authorisation may not be longer than 7 days, beginning on the day on which the authorisation is given. (3) The Commissioner, or a police officer authorised under section 8(1), may extend the period for which an authorisation has effect by giving, with the agreement of the Police Minister, one further authorisation. (4) An authorisation in accordance with subsection (3) may be given for a period of not more than 7 days specified in the authorisation. (5) The Police Minister may extend the period for which an authorisation (which may be a further authorisation in accordance with subsection (3)) has effect. (6) An extension under subsection (5) has effect for the period of not more than 14 days, beginning at the time the extension is given and ending at the time that is specified in the extension as the time at which the extension is to cease to have effect.
