Commonwealth legislation
This Act has been repealed and is no longer in force. It is retained for historical reference.
This instrument enforced the technical requirements in ACA TS 005 – 1997 for mobile handsets connecting to Australia’s AMPS analogue cellular network, so only equipment meeting specified electrical, RF and compatibility standards could access the public network. It primarily affected handset manufacturers, suppliers and the ACA’s approval process, and mattered for preventing interference and protecting emergency and public communications. The standard is now of historical interest after AMPS was decommissioned.
