This instrument imposes legally binding technical requirements for mobile phones and devices connecting to Australia’s public GSM (2G) networks by adopting the ACA TS 018‑97 specifications. It targets manufacturers, suppliers and importers of GSM equipment and matters because it enforces non‑interference interworking standards to protect network integrity, ensure service quality, and guarantee reliable cross‑vendor compatibility.
