Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does:

This law sets technical rules for a specific type of cordless phone system called CT2 CAI (Common Air Interface — a digital cordless telephone technology). Instead of listing technical specifications directly, it legally adopts an external technical manual called ACA TS 019–1997 and makes compliance with that manual mandatory.

Who it affects:

Manufacturers and importers of CT2 CAI cordless phone equipment
Suppliers of customer equipment (handsets/base stations) designed for these systems

Why it matters:

It ensures cordless phones connecting to the Australian telecommunications network:

Work properly without causing interference to other devices
Meet safety and compatibility standards
Don't disrupt emergency services or other communications

Think of it as the legal "wrapper" that says: If you want to sell this specific type of cordless phone in Australia, it must meet all the technical specifications in document ACA TS 019–1997.
