Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Determination classifies public number directory publishers (businesses that publish phone directories like the White Pages) as a specific 'section' of the telecommunications industry.

What it does:

Allows the telecommunications regulator (ACMA) to create specific rules and industry codes that apply only to phone directory publishers
Particularly relates to how these publishers access the Integrated Public Number Database (the central database of listed phone numbers)
Replaces an earlier 1998 version of the same instrument

Why it matters: By declaring directory publishers as a distinct 'section', the law can impose specific obligations on them regarding privacy, data accuracy, and access to phone number information, separate from other telecommunications companies like phone carriers.
