Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This determination fixes a specific dollar amount that Australian telecommunications carriers must pay toward Australia's annual membership contribution to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) — the United Nations agency that coordinates global radio spectrum, satellite orbits, and telecom standards.

What it does

Sets the recovery amount at $1,643,383
This represents the carriers' share of Australia's 2006 ITU budget contribution

Who it affects

Licensed telecommunications carriers operating in Australia

Why it matters

Australia pays annual fees to participate in the ITU and shape global communications rules. Rather than funding this entirely through taxes, the government recovers a portion from commercial carriers that directly benefit from international spectrum coordination and technical standards.
