Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This short legal instrument officially designates specific buildings operated by Tasmanian emergency services as emergency service facilities under national telecommunications interception laws.

What it does:

Tasmania Police: Registers their premises in Hobart as an emergency facility (for Division 6.1 purposes)
Tasmania Fire Service: Registers their premises in Burnie, Hobart, and Launceston as emergency facilities (for Division 6.2 purposes)
Tasmania Ambulance Service: Registers their premises in Hobart as an emergency facility (for Division 6.3 purposes)

Why it matters: This designation authorises these specific premises to legally receive and handle intercepted phone calls and communications during emergencies, as permitted under the Telecommunications (Interception) Act 1979. Without this instrument, these buildings could not perform this function under federal surveillance laws.
