Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This instrument designates specific buildings and locations in the Australian Capital Territory as emergency service facilities under national telecommunications interception laws.

What it does It officially lists the physical premises that qualify as "emergency service facilities" under the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979. These designations allow the specified agencies to lawfully conduct telecommunications interception and access activities at these locations for emergency service purposes.

Who is affected

Australian Federal Police — ACT Policing: Their premises in the Belconnen and Greenway regions are designated as emergency service facilities
ACT Emergency Services Agency: Their premises in the Curtin region is designated as an emergency service facility

Why it matters Without this designation, these agencies could not legally carry out interception operations at these specific locations. The instrument replaces an earlier 2005 version to update the list of approved facilities.
