Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does: These regulations cancel (repeal) the previous rules that forced telecommunications companies to hand over environmental impact information to the government.

Key points:

Scraps the Telecommunications (Environmental Impact Information) Regulations 1997 (Statutory Rules 1997 No. 252)
Removes a reporting burden for telcos regarding environmental impacts of their operations
Takes effect immediately upon being published in the Gazette (official government newspaper)

Who it affects: Telecommunications companies operating in Australia, which no longer need to comply with the environmental information reporting requirements established in 1997.

Why it matters: This is a deregulatory "red tape reduction" measure. It eliminates a specific administrative obligation for the telecom industry, meaning companies don't have to prepare and submit those particular environmental reports anymore.
