Telecommunications (Costs Attributable to Telecommunications Functions and Powers) Determination 2007

This determination sets the $22,417,119 that Australian telecommunications companies must collectively reimburse the government for regulatory costs in the 2005–2006 financial year.

Under the Telecommunications (Carrier Licence Charges) Act 1997, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) must calculate what portion of its budget was spent on regulating phone and internet networks (as opposed to TV, radio, or other media). This figure becomes the basis for calculating annual licence fees paid by carriers such as Telstra, Optus, and other network operators.

Why it matters: This is essentially a cost‑recovery notice. It tells the industry exactly how much they collectively paid to fund ACMA's work in overseeing network standards, consumer safeguards, and technical compliance during that year.
