Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does: This Act removes extra fees (called "cable charges") for telegrams sent to or from Tasmania.

Why it matters: Before this law, people paid higher rates to send telegrams to Tasmania compared to other Australian states because the messages travelled via undersea cables. This Act makes the cost of sending telegrams to Tasmania the same as sending them between mainland states.

How it works: It deletes specific words from the Post and Telegraph Rates Act 1902 that previously required cable charges to be added to the cost of Tasmanian telegrams.
