Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This law authorises a one‑off federal rescue: if Tasmania funds The Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company’s operations between 15 August 1977 and 30 June 1978, the Commonwealth will reimburse up to half those costs from the Consolidated Revenue Fund. It’s a targeted federal‑state bailout intended to keep the mine open, protect local jobs, and avert an immediate shutdown during that financial period.
