This order cancels a previous tax break on imported car windscreens and windows.
What it does
It revokes (cancels) Tariff Concession Order 1009472, which previously allowed certain toughened safety glass for passenger motor vehicles to be imported into Australia without paying customs duty (or at a reduced rate). The revocation applies to tempered glass used for car windows and windscreens (tariff classification 7007.11.11).
Who it affects
Businesses that import automotive safety glass, particularly suppliers of replacement windscreens and windows for passenger cars.
Why it matters
From 20 May 2010 (the backdated effective date), importers must now pay full customs duty on these goods. The concession is removed because local manufacturing presumably now exists or the criteria for the concession are no longer met.
