What this does: This order removes a previous tax break (called a tariff concession) that allowed certain carry bags to enter Australia without paying full customs duty.
Who is affected: Importers of carry bags with non-detachable wheels and/or handles or shoulder straps, classified under tariff code 4202.92.90.
What changes: The previous concession (Order TC 0605472, granted in October 2005) is cancelled effective 5 July 2006. From that date, importers of these bags must pay standard customs duties instead of enjoying the reduced or zero rates under the concession.
Why it matters: This increases the cost of importing these specific types of bags, as they lose their duty-free or reduced-duty status.
