This legislative instrument cancels a tax break (tariff concession) on specialized military protective clothing.
What it does:
- Revokes Tariff Concession Order 0312504, effective from 17 May 2006
- Removes duty-free or concessional import status for specific anti-contamination suits designed for chemical, biological and nuclear (CBRN) threats
The affected goods:
Anti-contamination combat suits and garments that meet all these technical specifications:
- Outer layer of silicon-coated flameproof woven material
- Inner layer of charcoal-coated reinforced non-woven material
- Compliance with UK Military Standard UK/SC/4821B
- Classification under customs tariff code 6210.40.10
Who is affected:
Importers, defence contractors, or suppliers bringing these specific military-grade NBC protective garments into Australia. From the revocation date, standard customs duties apply instead of the concession that had been available since October 2003.
