What this does
This order removes a special tax break (called a tariff concession) for baby skin wipes imported into Australia.
Who it affects
Businesses that import baby wipes classified under customs code 3401.11.00. These importers previously benefited from "Tariff Concession Order 0706740" (granted in July 2007), which allowed the wipes to enter Australia at a reduced or zero import duty rate. They must now pay the standard customs duty.
Why it matters
This increases the cost of importing baby wipes, which may lead to higher retail prices or reduced profit margins. Such revocations typically occur when Australian manufacturers demonstrate they can produce similar goods locally—removing the justification for the import tax break.
Effective date
The change took effect on 29 January 2008.
