This document cancels a tax break (called a "tariff concession") that previously allowed specific industrial equipment to be imported into Australia without paying customs duty.
What is being affected?
The revocation applies specifically to air intake systems for gas turbines — large industrial equipment used in power generation. To fall under this order, a system must include all of the following components: inlet housings, filters, upper and lower plenums, expansion joints, compressor cleaners, dehumidifiers, evaporative coolers, and stair/platform frames (classified under customs code 8421.39.00).
What changed?
- Before: Under "Tariff Concession Order 0716567" (from October 2007), these systems could be imported duty-free.
- After: From 17 December 2009, standard import duties apply to these goods.
Who is affected?
This matters to businesses importing gas turbine air intake systems. They will now face higher costs when bringing these specific items into Australia unless another exemption applies.
