This order removes a previous tax break (called a tariff concession) for importing specific large steel-reinforced conveyor belts.
What it does:
- Revokes (cancels) Tariff Concession Order 0611943 from 2006
- Removes the duty-free or reduced-duty status for steel-reinforced conveyor belts between 2,500mm and 3,200mm wide
- These goods fall under customs classification 4010.11.00
Who it affects:
- Importers of large industrial conveyor belts
- Australian businesses in mining or heavy industry that buy these imported belts
When it takes effect:
- 12 May 2011 (importers must pay full duties from this date)
Why it matters:
Importers must now pay standard customs duties instead of the concession rate. This usually happens when local manufacturers prove they can produce equivalent goods, meaning the duty protection for local industry is restored.
