This order removes a tax break (called a tariff concession) that previously allowed certain industrial valves to enter Australia duty-free.
Specifically, it cancels Tariff Concession Order 0714759, which had exempted flow control valves used in steam generation boilers and auxiliary plants (including water and steam valves) from import duties.
Who is affected:
- Importers of industrial valves classified under customs code 8481.80.90
- Suppliers of equipment for power stations or industrial boiler systems
- These businesses must now pay standard customs duties on these goods
Timing: The revocation applies retrospectively from 26 November 2007, meaning any imports of these valves after that date (even before this revocation order was made on 23 January 2008) are no longer eligible for the duty exemption.
