This order removes a customs duty exemption (tax break) for imported battery recycling equipment.
What it does:
- Cancels Tariff Concession Order 0604677 from 2006, which previously allowed certain battery recycling machinery to be imported without paying customs duty
- From 27 July 2011, importers must pay standard customs duties on these goods
What goods are affected:
Battery recycling plants and their components, specifically:
- Furnaces, tanks, filters, saws
- Plate separators, crushers, baghouses, conveyors
These fall under customs tariff classification 8417.80.00.
Why it matters:
Businesses importing battery recycling machinery will now face higher costs, as they must pay the standard tariff rate instead of the previous concessional rate (duty-free) rate.
