What this does: This order removes a special import tax discount (called a tariff concession) for very large industrial electric motors used in steel manufacturing.
The specific goods: Giant AC motors (over 7,000 kilowatts and 6,000 volts) used to drive waste gas fans in sinter plants — facilities that process iron ore fines into lumps for steelmaking. These motors must have Class F insulation.
What happens now: Importers of these specific motors must pay full customs duties instead of the reduced rate previously allowed under Concession Order 0706915 (which dated from 2007).
Effective date: The revocation took effect on 27 July 2011.
