This order cancels a previous tariff concession that allowed specific plastic toolboxes to be imported into Australia with reduced or no customs duty.
What it does
- Revokes Tariff Concession Order 0617300 (originally made in December 2006)
- Removes the duty benefit for plastic toolboxes that meet all of these criteria:
- Weigh 5 kg or less
- Measure 1 metre or less in length
- Have hinged lids
- Have metal or plastic latches
- Have handles
Who it affects
- Importers of these specific plastic toolboxes (tariff classification 3926.90.90)
- Businesses importing goods under the previous concession arrangement
Why it matters
The revocation took effect on 3 June 2010. From that date, importers must pay standard customs duty rates on these toolboxes instead of benefiting from the concession, typically increasing import costs.
