This order removes a special import tax break (called a tariff concession) that previously applied to wire benders—machinery used to bend wire.
What changed
- Importers of wire benders (falling under customs classification 8479.89.90) can no longer claim the reduced duty rate that was available under concession order TC 0607298.
- These goods must now be imported under standard duty rates.
Who is affected
Businesses importing wire bending machinery into Australia.
When it takes effect
7 October 2006.
Why it matters
This increases the cost of importing these machines by removing the duty exemption or reduction that had been available since 21 April 2006.
The order was made by a delegate of the Customs CEO using powers under the Customs Act 1901.
