This order gives importers a customs duty break (tariff concession) on specific heavy-duty bus chassis brought into Australia.
What gets the concession:
- Bus chassis (the frame/base of a bus without the body attached)
- Must have 4×2 wheel drive (four wheels total, two of them powered)
- Must have a gross vehicle weight of at least 18 tonnes
How it works:
If you import these goods (falling under tariff code 8706.00.99), you can use Schedule 4, Item 50 of the Customs Tariff Act to pay reduced or zero duty instead of the standard import tax rate.
Who it affects:
Bus manufacturers and importers bringing in heavy-duty bus chassis. The concession took effect on 28 August 2008 and stays in force indefinitely unless revoked.
