This Order applies a Customs Tariff Act Schedule 4 concession (item 50) to particular iron or steel sanitary ware — e.g. bed pans, chamber pots, eye baths, shower racks, spittoons, toilet brush and paper holders, and wash basins — from 14 July 2008. Mechanically, that designation changes how importers of those listed goods are treated for tariff purposes while the Order remains in force. It matters to importers, Australian distributors and competing local producers because it alters the customs cost of bringing these specific items into Australia.
