This order gives businesses a discount on import taxes when bringing specific factory machinery into Australia.
What it covers:
- Equipment: Feeders (machinery that supplies materials) used in cornice plants — factories that make decorative ceiling or wall mouldings (cornices)
- Tariff classification: 8428.90.00 (category for lifting/handling machinery)
- The benefit: These items qualify for Item 50 in Schedule 4 of the Customs Tariff, meaning they enter Australia with reduced or zero customs duty (a Tariff Concession Order)
Why it matters:
Without this order, importers would pay standard customs duties on this machinery. The concession makes it cheaper to import manufacturing equipment for the building industry.
When it applies:
From 13 February 2008 until revoked or replaced.
