This document is a Tariff Concession Order — essentially a customs duty exemption for a specific product.
What it does:
It allows certain travel bags to be imported into Australia duty-free (or at a reduced customs duty rate) under Item 50 of the Customs Tariff.
Which goods are covered:
- Travel or overnight carry bags (customs classification 4202.92.90)
- Must be fitted with non-detachable wheels and/or non-detachable handles or shoulder straps
Key details:
- Effective from: 12 October 2005
- Made by: Susan Campbell (acting as a delegate of the Customs CEO)
- Duration: Remains in force until revoked or replaced
Why it matters:
Without this order, importers would pay standard customs duty on these bags. This makes it cheaper for businesses to import wheeled luggage and overnight bags into Australia.
