This order gives customs duty relief (duty-free or reduced-rate importation) for specialized underwater mining equipment used to find diamonds on the seabed.
What it covers:
The concession applies to marine diamond samplers and screeners — machines that collect and sort seabed material to locate diamonds. To qualify, the equipment must have at least one of these features:
- A seabed sampler (collects material from the ocean floor), OR
- A heave compensator (equipment that stabilizes the machine against wave movement), OR
- A materials processor (sorts and processes collected samples)
Who benefits:
Mining companies importing expensive specialized machinery for offshore diamond exploration and extraction.
How it works:
The goods must fall under tariff classification 8479.89.90 and are covered by Schedule 4 Item 50 of the Customs Tariff (which determines the duty rate). The order took effect on 26 May 2005 and stays valid until revoked.
