> Notwithstanding [rule 557](#GS557@EN) , on the application of any party, the Court or a judge may direct that any action or any question or issue in the action be tried without a jury if the action, question or issue requires prolonged examination of any document or account or any scientific or local investigation which it is not convenient for a jury to do.
