### 519 Conduct of mediation > > (1)  The function of a mediator is to assist the parties – > > > > > > (a) to reach a mutually agreed resolution of their differences; or > > > > > > > (b) if that is not possible, to resolve as many differences as possible. > > > (2)  Subject to [subrule (3)](#GS519@Gs3@EN) , a mediation is to be conducted in any manner the mediator determines. > > > (3)  The judges may approve guidelines for the conduct of mediation and, unless otherwise ordered or the parties agree, mediation is to be conducted in accordance with those guidelines. > > > (4)  Unless otherwise ordered or agreed by the parties, each party is to attend the mediation with authority to settle.
