Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This instrument repeals (cancels) the 1978 regulations that governed superannuation benefits for former staff of the Australian Legal Aid Office.

What it does:

Removes the rules contained in Statutory Rules 1978 No. 29
Does not replace them with new rules—simply ends the old ones
Cleans up the statute book by removing outdated superannuation provisions

Who it affects:

Former Australian Legal Aid Office staff whose retirement benefits were covered by the 1978 Regulations
Commonwealth superannuation administrators responsible for those historic benefits

Why it matters: This is a housekeeping measure. When specific regulations become obsolete—perhaps because the affected staff have all retired or the benefit arrangements were consolidated into broader schemes—Parliament removes them to keep the law tidy and prevent confusion.
